founder, director & planet streetpainter
“The art of streetpainting is one of those inspiring phenomena of our time. It’s colourful, cool and sometimes even breathtaking. Once you’ve witnessed the live creation of a streetpainting, the memory of it will last you a lifetime. Indeed, one picture paints a thousand words…” [peter westerink]
Planet Streetpainting is founded in 2003 by Peter Westerink. During a surprise visit to the Youth in Arts Festival in San Rafael, California in 2001, the native Dutchman immediately fell in love with this unique and emerging art form. He decided to take it to the streets of his homeland Holland. Having a business but no artistic background, he started organizing small events, paid out of pocket, and travelled to Street Painting events in Europe. He connected with experienced street painters there and on the web. And started to collaborate with them. After a while Peter too started to street paint, inevitably.
He’s been putting his passion, business talent as well as his artistic and networking skills to good use ever since, which makes him a rather unique figure in the World of Street Painting. Meanwhile Peter’s love for Street Painting has turned into a well established and succesful enterprise, the Planet Streetpainting Group, delivering Big Chalk Art experiences to places far and near. Thereby creating a positive impact and leaving lasting impressions on the people they meet and the places they visit.
Peter beliefs in the magic of any collaboration or partnership that is based on inspiration, dedication, connectedness and reciprocity. He likes to unite people around new ideas and ‘start them up’. Colleagues describe Peter as a warm, creative and innovative person who is willing to look at the world from a new perspective. A soft innovator and early adopter with a cunning eye for personal and business needs, and in tune with the latest trends and developments.
